Background

His parents were killed when they were about 10 years old when they went out to look for food.
Since the owner of the house had told him what to do in such a situation, he picked up the money left by the owner of the house, along with his usual pipe and a crystal, and set out on his wanderings.
Then, while foraging in the forest, he found a sword in a stone, and when he got close to the sword, the sword started to talk, asking Karl to help him unlock the seal on his body, which would help him improve his family's life. However, because Karl was too small to unlock the seal alone and didn't think unlocking himself was a good idea, he decided that the sword in a stone would make a contract with him: every month, he would donate his blood and bury money to give the sword!
He must suffer from hunger and cold temperatures most of the time, so he occasionally ate magical creatures when there was no food, and recently he had started to try cooking magical creatures.
When Karl is hungry, he will fight with kobolds for food (and Karl will lose many times).
He had been collecting a lot of different items to sell when he was young, therefore he was obsessed with shiny things.
